Acer palmatum HIGASAYAMA MT. HIGASA MAPLE

Zones:5-9. Named for a mountain area in Japan, this is a very old variegated palmate type. A favorite for Bonsai due to its continuous striking color change. Higasayama's popularity starts in spring with delicate pink buds emerging from deep red sepal (sheath) leaves. These then open to classic palmate leaves colored with cream and green centers and outlined in a hot pink ribbon. By summer most leaves will be soft green only to change in fall to gold and yellow. Bonsai work and/or frequent tip pruning keeps the variegated new leaves coming on for a continual visual delight. Recommended (of course) for Bonsai, patio containers or let grow naturally in the landscape to 6-15 feet at 10 years. Fall color depends on weather and climate. Sorry, currently sold out. We suggest substitute First Ghost.
