Zones: 4-8. Short needles of silvery blue-green (green on top, silvery white underneath) give soft glaucus look to this compact mini. Discovered in 1988 by John Mitch of Oregon, this small tree is new to the plant world. Its 10 year height of under 30 inches indicates it should be known as a miniature rather than a dwarf. This beauty is excellent for Bonsai, rock garden, small-scale landscape or collector’s item. Historical note: The Yezo spruce has traditionally been used for housing, cabinetry, and musical instruments in northern Japan. It is currently under study for its cancer fighting attributes. Place in sunny site, give regular watering. Takes less water when established. Little or no fertilizer needed. Shipping size: 6-8 inches.
