This False Cypress evergreen family is noted for its tiny ½ inch cones, wide variety of color, texture, size and shape. The following selections are among the smallest and hardiest cultivars avail-able. All prefer a moist (never allowed to dry out) but well drained soil. In hottest summer areas they need filtered shade from the overhead sun. In the subzero winter areas, a snow cover will protect them but if the plant is in an exposed area, or snow cover is not sufficient to cover them, wrap with burlap or remay or other type protection. A good fall watering is a must with mulch added afterwards to hold in the moisture. Controlled drip irrigation in hot summer areas has added to their tolerance zones.
